Turmeric for Neuropathy: What the Research Shows
Turmeric for neuropathy has been tested only in animals. A review of 30 studies found better nerve measures in rats and mice, with no human trials. Nervecept lists 50 mg of turmeric root per capsule, while the arthritis trials used about 1,000 mg of curcumin. Human benefit is unknown.

Does turmeric help neuropathy in studies?
Only in animals so far. A systematic review found 30 studies, all in rats or mice, where turmeric products improved nerve measures in models of diabetic, sciatic, chemotherapy and alcohol neuropathy (Silveira et al., turmeric animal review).
No human trials were included. An animal result cannot tell us that a small capsule dose helps human nerves.
NCCIH is just as careful. It says there is not enough evidence to call turmeric or curcumin helpful for any health purpose (NCCIH, Turmeric).
How does 50 mg of turmeric compare with studied doses?
It is far smaller. Nervecept lists 50 mg of turmeric root per capsule. A pooled review of 8 arthritis trials found a supporting dose near 1,000 mg of curcumin a day (J Med Food, turmeric meta-analysis 2016).
Curcumin is one active part of the root, so 50 mg of root holds much less curcumin than 50 mg of extract. The label does not state a curcumin content.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Arthritis trials (curcumin) | About 1,000 mg a day |
| Nervecept label (root) | 50 mg a capsule |
| Curcumin share on label | Not published |
| Human nerve trials | None found |
Is turmeric safe to take every day?
Often yes in food amounts, but supplements carry cautions. MSK says turmeric may raise bleeding risk and advises against it with warfarin or other blood thinners (MSKCC, Turmeric). People prone to kidney stones should ask a physician.
NCCIH reports liver damage in some users, especially of highly bioavailable curcumin. Stop and call a provider for fatigue, nausea, dark urine or yellow skin (NCCIH, Turmeric). It may also be unsafe in pregnancy.

Where does turmeric fit in a nerve plan?
It is a small extra at best, never the plan. NINDS says treatment targets the cause, and diabetes is the leading cause of neuropathy (NINDS, Peripheral Neuropathy).
Keep taking prescribed medicine. Nervecept also contains shellfish (crayfish), so check the allergen line first.

FAQ01
Nervecept questions people ask
Is curcumin the same as turmeric?
No. Curcumin is one active compound in the turmeric root. A root powder holds only a small share of it, so a root dose and a curcumin dose are not comparable.
Can turmeric reverse nerve damage?
No source we use says so. The nerve findings come from rats and mice, and NCCIH finds too little evidence for any health use (Silveira et al., turmeric animal review) (NCCIH, Turmeric).
Does turmeric thin the blood?
It may raise bleeding risk. MSK advises against turmeric supplements for people on warfarin or other blood thinners (MSKCC, Turmeric). Ask your clinic first.
