Nerve Supplement Side Effects: What Each Ingredient Type Can Do
Nerve supplement side effects depend on the ingredient. Common ones are stomach upset and allergic reactions, and some ingredients may raise bleeding risk. Too much vitamin B6 can itself damage nerves. Check the label, tell your care team, and stop a product that bothers you.

What side effects can nerve supplements cause?
Nerve supplements can cause stomach upset, allergic reactions, bleeding problems and, with one vitamin, more nerve damage. The risk depends on which ingredient the product holds.
Natural does not always mean safe (NCCIH, Chronic Pain and Complementary). Supplements can also interact with medicines and affect surgery, so tell every provider what you take (NCCIH, Using Supplements Wisely).
The table sorts the main risks by ingredient type. It is not a full list, and we cannot say which effects any one product will cause.
| Ingredient type | Reported risk | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Pineapple enzyme (bromelain) | Stomach upset and diarrhea; allergic reactions; avoid with blood thinners | (NCCIH, Bromelain) (MSKCC, Bromelain) |
| Shellfish-derived glucosamine | Allergic reaction; may raise INR on warfarin | (MSKCC, Glucosamine) |
| Plant extracts (turmeric, boswellia) | Bleeding risk; reports of liver injury; skin reactions | (NCCIH, Turmeric) (MSKCC, Turmeric) (MSKCC, Boswellia) |
| Vitamin B6 | Sensory neuropathy at high intake | (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6) |
Can too much vitamin B6 cause nerve damage?
Yes. Long-term B6 supplements of 1 to 6 grams a day caused severe sensory neuropathy, and some reports describe it below 500 mg a day. The tolerable upper limit for adults is 100 mg a day (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6).
Symptoms usually fade after stopping. More of a nerve vitamin is not always better. Australia's drug regulator logged 250 reports of nerve problems linked to B6 products by October 31, 2025 (TGA, Vitamin B6 safety update).
Check every multivitamin and "nerve" product you take, since B6 adds up. Nervecept lists no vitamin B6 on its label.
Which nerve supplement ingredients raise bleeding risk?
Turmeric, boswellia and bromelain may add to bleeding risk, and glucosamine with chondroitin may raise INR on warfarin. Quercetin has a case report of the same. Anyone on a blood thinner should ask a doctor first.
MSK advises against turmeric supplements and bromelain for people on warfarin or other blood thinners (MSKCC, Turmeric) (MSKCC, Bromelain). Tell your surgeon about supplements before any operation.
Do not stop a blood thinner, diabetes or nerve medicine because of a supplement. Glucosamine may also affect blood glucose, so people with diabetes should ask first (NCCIH, Glucosamine and Chondroitin).
What side effects can Nervecept cause?
No trial of Nervecept itself exists, so its side effects are unknown. The label lists glucosamine, boswellia, chondroitin, turmeric, quercetin, methionine, MSM and bromelain, and each has the cautions above.
The clearest warning is on the label: CONTAINS: Shellfish (Crayfish). Crustacean shellfish is one of the nine major food allergens (FDA, Food Allergies). People with a shellfish allergy should not take it.
The label also says pregnant or nursing mothers, anyone under 18 and anyone with a medical condition should consult a physician first. Know when a symptom needs urgent care:
- Sudden one-sided numbnessArm, leg or face, on one side of the body
- Face drooping, slurred speechOr trouble understanding speech
- Bladder or bowel changesLost control with back pain or numb inner thighs
- Weakness that spreadsGetting much worse over hours or days
- A foot sore that will not healOr a red, hot, swollen foot
SoonTingling, burning or numbness in the feet or hands that lasts more than a few weeks, keeps you up at night, or comes with diabetes, heavy drinking or chemotherapy: book a doctor visit and ask about B12 and blood sugar tests.
Call 911For sudden numbness or weakness on one side, a drooping face, trouble speaking, or sudden loss of bladder or bowel control.

FAQ01
Nervecept questions people ask
Which nerve supplement side effect is most common?
Stomach upset is the most common report for bromelain, along with diarrhea (NCCIH, Bromelain). Other ingredients bring different risks, such as allergy or bleeding, so read each label line.
What are the signs of too much vitamin B6?
The sign is nerve trouble itself: numbness, tingling or poor balance in the hands and feet. It usually fades after stopping, but see a doctor if you suspect it.
Should I stop a supplement that upsets my stomach?
Stopping a supplement that bothers you is reasonable, and FDA advises stopping a product after a bad reaction (FDA 101: Dietary Supplements). Tell your provider. Do not stop prescribed medicine.
Does Nervecept have any known side effects?
Not tested. No trial of Nervecept exists. Each ingredient has cautions, and shellfish allergy is the clearest one. Report any reaction to your doctor.
